How We Do It

We Use Drama

We harness the power of storytelling, drama, and professional actors to bring real workplace challenges to life in a safe, engaging environment. Our immersive approach helps your people confidently practise new behaviours. This leads to lasting change that reaches far beyond the training room.

We dramatise real workplace challenges in ways that encourage employees to empathise with characters, reflect on their own behaviours, and actively participate in problem-solving discussions. Our experienced inclusion-informed facilitators lead these discussions. This fosters a safe environment for open dialogue, self-awareness, and experimentation with new behaviours. Such a safe, immersive, drama-based approach makes the learning experience memorable and impactful.

This boosts engagement and drives meaningful, lasting behavioural change by harnessing the emotional power of storytelling, which connects more deeply than traditional training. Participants also define and practise desired behaviours in a safe, supportive space, making learning truly impactful.

"Research and real-world applications have shown that drama-based training increases motivation, confidence, and team cohesion, while helping organisations embed cultural and behavioural change that lasts well beyond the training room."

Belonging Within Organisations

Bring belonging to life with our proven drama-based training techniques, expert lived-experience researchers, scriptwriters, directors, producers, actor coaches, and facilitators

how-we-do-it-orgs

Building belonging in the workplace starts with your senior leadership team acknowledging any challenges your organisation faces. And so do we. Every programme we create is unique, but they all start by bringing your leadership team on board. Typically, this is with an inclusive leadership programme. Then, either within this programme or as separate workshops, we co-create modules around inclusive communications, feedback, psychological safety, unconscious bias, and personal impact. These modules are designed to be cascaded throughout your organisation. Nobody gets left behind. All our drama-based training programmes draw on the methods below and are crafted to meet clearly defined learning goals.

Forum theatre

Drawing on lived experience interviews with staff, we script and present a scene that shows one or more workplace challenges. We make scenes general enough to protect privacy, but real enough for the audience to relate to.

We run the scene once, then facilitate a solutions-focused discussion. Next, we re-run the scene, encouraging the audience to shout “Stop!” when they see something they want to change. This freezes the action, and audience members suggest different actions. The actors take on an agreed audience suggestion and restart the scene from the point at which it was frozen.

Through further rounds of suggestions, the audience explores the impact of different communication behaviours. They can try out different approaches and see the outcomes. The actors share their feedback, how it felt for their character, and the impact of trying a new approach.

We can run separate sessions for executives, managers and staff to encourage sharing, experimentation and learning with peers in a safe space. We also run one-off practice sessions for individuals wanting to practice tricky conversations with trained DEIB professionals.

Practice conversations

We offer the opportunity for people to practice difficult conversations with our actor-coaches.  These practice conversations focus on participants’ real-life experiences. These might be conversations from the past that they want to revisit and learn from. Or, they may be future conversations that they wish to rehearse and train for, rather than just jumping in and hoping for the best.

After discussing the situation and their goals, participants choose options they’d like to try out. They practise the conversation with the actor-coach, who plays the other person in the conversation. The actor-coach gives feedback on how the participant did, how the participant made them feel, and specific, actionable advice on what to do differently. Participants get a chance to re-run the conversation and implement the feedback there and then.

Practice conversations suit individuals or small groups of two to three participants.

We also offer a confidential practice conversation portal that you can plug into your learning portal. This allows colleagues to discreetly book sessions.

Lived experience recordings

We interview people in an organisation who feel marginalised. We then record actors speaking their words, conveying the emotional impact while maintaining the speaker’s anonymity. We play these voice recordings to staff in facilitated sessions to prompt reflection and discussion.

Films

Whether you need bite-sized refreshers or in-depth overviews, we can provide high-quality, high-value films for you to use after our workshops are complete.

Why use films?

Lived experiences move heads and hearts: Our bespoke films share the anonymised stories of your colleagues. Purposefully crafted to spark honest conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace, they help your leaders and teams move beyond awareness. By fostering genuine empathy and inspiring urgent action, these experiences drive meaningful change.

Wellbeing and psychological safety are built in: Through powerful storytelling and realistic scenarios, we support organisations to prioritise wellbeing, build trust, and create psychologically safe environments where everyone can thrive.

Our films are designed to drive cultural and behavioural change: We don’t just talk about change—we show it. Our films enable your people to see, feel, and practice the behaviours that drive lasting cultural transformation.

Our films are high-calibre and high-value: We produce top-quality films using efficient and creative production techniques. They help you create immersive learning experiences that ensure belonging is a lived experience, not just a word, time and time again.
